10 Week Guitar for Beginners

Purpose: This lesson will make the guitar more user friendly by discussing its history and evolution, detailing its parts and construction and describing how it produces sound.

Purpose: This lesson will teach you how to properly hold the guitar in order to avoid cramping, fatigue and/or physical discomfort. Through learning proper positioning of the body, hands and fingers, you will be able to promote the best sound quality from the guitar.

Purpose: This lesson will train the student to quickly and reliably tune the guitar. Proper fretting technique is reviewed and your first chords are introduced.

Purpose: This lesson presents the student with an effective method to identify and memorize every note on the fretboard. To expand on the single string melody covered in Lesson 2, the student will learn a melody played on multiple strings in one position.

Purpose: This lesson will teach you how to construct the major scale in any given key. Constructing the major scale will help you determine exactly which notes make up that given key. This is an essential tool to help you both read and write music.

Purpose: The purpose of this lesson is to help you build basic rudimentary skills for reading and playing music on the guitar. Do all sections of this lesson in sequence.

Purpose: This lesson will give you a complete understanding of how all chords are constructed. Eventually, by simply seeing a chord symbol, you will be able to visually picture how it should be played on the guitar and you will be able to “hear” that chord in your mind.

Purpose: This lesson serves as an introduction and overview to the basic theory and application of chord progressions and will help you to develop your playing skills.

Purpose: The purpose of this lesson is to teach you basic strumming skills through simple and then more complex rhythmic patterns.
